Dr. Prasad-Gaur is a licensed psychologist with over 10 years of experience in the field of child mental health. She works exclusively with children, adolescents, and families struggling with emotional, social and/or behavioral difficulties.
Dr. Prasad-Gaur’s overall treatment approach is guided by the developmental needs of the child/teen, the presenting concern(s) and the individual strengths of the child. Each child is unique with his/her own set of strengths and weaknesses. She emphasizes the strengths in working through issues. She sees psycho-education and parent support/training as critical components in child treatment where she emphasizes positive and effective parenting strategies to improve parent-child relationship. Finally, as necessary, she likes to collaborate with schools and other health professionals to optimize care. Dr. Prasad-Gaur primarily utilizes cognitive-behavior treatment (CBT) methods in psychotherapy. Dr. Prasad-Gaur has special interests in interventions with children diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome and Pervasive Development Disorders.
Dr. Prasad-Gaur’s treatment style is directive yet supportive, educational and focused on resolving the problems that you currently face. She can provide information and guidance in understanding, problem solving, and implementing effective strategies to resolve the problematic issues your child/teen and you as a parent might be experiencing. Along with sound knowledge of underpinnings of human behavior, she brings warmth, compassion and positive regard to the collaborative relationship based on trust and confidentiality.
Dr. Prasad-Gaur received her Doctorate in School Psychology from Texas A&M University in 1998. She trained as a predoctoral intern in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry, Newark, New Jersey and as a postdoctoral fellow at the Sheppard Pratt Health System, Baltimore, MD, where she continued to work as a Staff Psychologist at the day treatment program, Forbush School prior to starting her own practice in Portland, Maine.
